Men’s trousers in the UK and US are labelled with the waist in inches, while European brands add 16, so W32 is an EU 48 and W34 an EU 50. Women’s trousers usually follow dress sizes (UK 12 is a US 8 and an EU 40), and jeans are often labelled by waist in inches instead.
Vanity sizing means many jeans labelled W32 actually measure 33 to 34 inches, so measuring yourself, or a pair that fits, beats relying on the label. Leg lengths are measured along the inside leg.
