About this tool

Cameras and phones store details inside every photo: the make, model and lens, the date and time it was taken, settings such as shutter speed, aperture and ISO and, if location services were on, the exact GPS position. This tool reads that information from JPEG, PNG and WebP files and lays it out in plain English. It covers the tags people actually look for rather than every manufacturer-specific field. Many photos shared through messaging apps or social media have had their EXIF data stripped already, so a blank result doesn't necessarily mean the original had none.

Location data is a privacy risk: a photo of your home, your children’s school or your car can reveal exactly where it was taken. If a photo has coordinates, the tool warns you and offers a link to see the spot on a map. Use Download a copy with all metadata removed before posting a photo on a forum, a marketplace or a dating site; the copy is saved the right way up, with no camera details, dates or location.
