Running a small business means a steady stream of money questions, and most of them need a quick, accurate answer rather than a spreadsheet. Price a product with the Markup Percentage Calculator, which works from either a markup or the margin you want, then check the result with the Profit Margin Calculator. The Break-Even Calculator shows how many sales cover your fixed costs, and the Freelance Day Rate Calculator turns a target income into a rate that allows for holidays, bank holidays and unpaid admin time.

When it's time to get paid, the Invoice Template Builder, Quote Builder and Receipt Generator share your business details and logo, handle VAT line by line and print cleanly to PDF, while the Invoice Number Generator keeps your numbering unbroken. If a customer pays late, the Late Payment Interest Calculator works out the statutory interest and compensation you're owed. Keep on top of HMRC with the VAT Threshold Tracker, which watches your rolling 12-month turnover, and the Business Mileage Calculator, updated for the new 55p rate.

For planning ahead, the Cash Flow Forecast Builder flags the month your bank balance would dip below zero, the Startup Cost Estimator budgets for a new venture, and the Equity Dilution Calculator shows what a funding round does to your stake. At home, compare the debt snowball and avalanche methods or track your net worth over time. Your figures are saved in your browser, not on a server.

Questions and answers

What's the difference between margin and markup?
Both describe the same profit. Markup is profit as a percentage of what the item cost you; margin is profit as a percentage of the selling price. Buying at £60 and selling at £100 is a 66.7% markup but a 40% margin. Use the Markup Percentage Calculator to set a price from either figure, and the Profit Margin Calculator to check a price you already have.
Should I use the invoice builder or the receipt generator?
Send an invoice to ask for payment: it has a due date, payment terms and your bank details. Give a receipt once you've been paid, to confirm the payment, for example after a cash job or when a customer asks for proof. Both use the same business details, so you only enter them once, and both show VAT correctly if you're registered.
Are the HMRC rates and thresholds up to date?
They reflect the 2026/27 tax year: the 55p mileage rate for the first 10,000 miles, the £90,000 VAT registration threshold, the £500 dividend allowance with the higher dividend tax rates, and the Bank of England reference rate of 3.75% for late payment interest. Rates change, so check GOV.UK for anything you're relying on, especially near the start of a new tax year.
When do I have to register for VAT?
When your taxable turnover for the last 12 months goes over £90,000, checked at the end of each month, or if you expect to go over it in the next 30 days alone. The VAT Threshold Tracker keeps the rolling total for you and, if you cross the line, shows the date you must register by and the date you'd start charging VAT.
Is my business data stored anywhere?
Only in your own browser on the device you're using. Business details, invoice drafts, debts and forecasts are saved there so they're ready next time, and nothing is sent to a server. Clearing your browser's site data removes them, so keep the PDFs and CSV downloads as your records.
