Markup Percentage Calculator
Set a selling price from your cost and either a markup or a target margin, round it to a price ending in 99p if you like, and see the price with VAT added.
About this tool
Markup is added to the cost: a £80 item with a 25% markup sells for £100. Margin is taken from the price: at £100, the £20 profit is a 20% margin. The two are linked, so a 50% markup is a 33.3% margin and a 100% markup (doubling the cost) is a 50% margin. Choose “I want a target margin” if your business plans in margins; the tool works out the markup that gets you there.
Rounding to a price ending in .99 always rounds up, so you never drop below the margin you asked for, and the result shows the margin you actually get. The table shows the same cost at common markups. Work in prices without VAT, then add VAT at the end if you sell to the public. Your settings are remembered on this device.
