About this tool

Every sale brings in its price, minus the cost of making or buying that one item. What's left, the contribution, goes towards your fixed costs such as rent, wages, insurance and software. Break-even is the point where those contributions add up to the fixed costs: below it you make a loss, above it every extra sale is profit. Enter prices without VAT, because the VAT isn't yours to keep.

Add a profit target to see the sales you need to reach it, and your expected sales to see the margin of safety: how far sales could fall before you stop making money. The chart shows revenue and total costs crossing at break-even. Your figures are remembered on this device.
