About this tool

Dividend yield is a year's dividends per share divided by the share price. UK share prices are usually quoted in pence, so a share at 480p paying 22.5p a year yields 4.69%. Pick p or £ for each figure so the units don't trip you up. If you know what you paid, the yield on cost shows the return on your original money, which grows as a company raises its dividend. Use the dividends for the last 12 months (the trailing yield) or the forecast for the next year, and remember dividends can be cut.

For 2026/27 the first £500 of dividends is tax-free (the dividend allowance). Above that, dividends are taxed at 10.75% for basic-rate taxpayers, 35.75% for higher-rate and 39.35% for additional-rate; the basic and higher rates each rose by 2 percentage points on 6 April 2026. Shares in an ISA or pension pay no dividend tax. The tax figure is an estimate for this holding on its own: your band depends on all your income. Your figures are remembered on this device.
