The same random brightness offset is applied to all three colour channels of each pixel, so the grain reads as texture rather than colour speckling — closer to how real film grain looks.
The grain pattern stays the same while you move the slider, so you can judge the strength without it flickering; load the image again for a fresh pattern. Set the intensity to 0 to compare with the original. For a print or a large poster, grain at 10–25 adds texture without looking noisy. Very large photos are worked on at up to 4,000 pixels across to keep the preview quick.
