About this tool

Edit either field and the other updates instantly. A Unix timestamp counts the seconds since midnight UTC on 1 January 1970, so it’s the same everywhere in the world; the date box shows it in your local time. Paste a 13-digit JavaScript or Java timestamp and it’s recognised as milliseconds automatically (microseconds and nanoseconds work too), with the unit shown so there’s no confusion.

Below the converter you’ll find the same moment in UTC, your local time, ISO 8601 and as a relative time such as “3 days ago”, each with a Copy button. Negative timestamps are dates before 1970. Systems that store seconds in a signed 32-bit number run out at 03:14:07 UTC on 19 January 2038 (2147483647), the so-called Year 2038 problem.
