Hash Identifier

Paste a hash to see which algorithm(s) it's most likely to be, based on its length and format.

About this tool

Many password hashes describe themselves, and those are identified with certainty from their prefix: bcrypt ($2b$12$…), Argon2 ($argon2id$…), the Linux /etc/shadow formats ($6$, $5$, $y$, $1$), scrypt, PBKDF2 in passlib and Django formats, WordPress phpass ($P$), LDAP {SSHA}, and MySQL and SQL Server password hashes.

A bare hash is just a string of hex or Base64 characters, so it can only be narrowed down by length: MD5 and NTLM are both 32 hex characters, and SHA-256 and SHA3-256 are both 64. The likeliest algorithms are listed first, and well-known values, such as the hash of an empty password, are recognised. To confirm, generate a hash of a known input with the matching tool and compare. Nothing you paste leaves your browser.
