SHA Hash Generator

Generate a SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 or SHA-512 hash. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

About this tool

Uses your browser's built-in Web Crypto API, the same engine used by real applications — SHA-1 is included for compatibility with older systems but is no longer considered secure; SHA-256 or higher is recommended for anything security-sensitive.

The text is hashed as UTF-8, the encoding almost every system uses, so the result matches echo -n "text" | sha256sum and the hash functions in most programming languages. A single changed character, an extra space or a trailing line break gives a completely different hash. Don't use a plain SHA hash to store passwords: it's far too fast to guess, so use Argon2 or bcrypt instead.
