About this tool

Top-level domains come in a few kinds. Generic endings such as .com, .shop and .app are open to anyone. Country codes such as .uk, .de and .ie belong to a country, and some only accept people or businesses with a connection there, while others, such as .io, .co and .tv, have become popular worldwide for what they spell. Second-level endings such as .co.uk and .ac.uk sit under a country code, and some, like .gov.uk and .nhs.uk, are tightly restricted.

.app, .dev and .page only work over HTTPS, because browsers are told in advance never to load them insecurely. This is a reference guide, not a registry lookup: it doesn't check availability, prices change, and registries update their rules, so confirm the current terms with a registrar before you buy.
