HTML to Markdown Converter
Paste HTML and get clean GitHub-flavoured Markdown back as you type, including nested lists, tables, images and code blocks.
About this tool
Your HTML is read by the browser's own DOMParser, which builds the page structure without running any scripts or loading any images, and that structure is turned into GitHub-flavoured Markdown as you type. It handles headings, paragraphs, bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code, links (with titles), images, line breaks, bullet and numbered lists (including nested lists and numbered lists that start part-way), blockquotes, fenced code blocks (the language is picked up from a language-js style class), horizontal rules and tables (with column alignment).
Spaces and line breaks in the HTML are collapsed the way a browser would show them, and characters such as *, _ and [ are escaped so they appear as written rather than becoming formatting. Scripts, styles, forms and other elements that have no Markdown equivalent are left out; other unknown tags are dropped but their text is kept. To go the other way, use the Markdown to HTML Converter.
