Pitch Shifter
Shift a clip up or down in semitones — the duration stays exactly the same, unlike simply speeding up or slowing down playback.
About this tool
The pitch is changed without changing the length, using a two-step method. First the clip is time-stretched with WSOLA (waveform-similarity overlap-add): it is cut into short overlapping slices, and each slice is placed where its waveform best lines up with the one before, so the joins stay smooth and in phase. Then the stretched clip is resampled back to its original length, which raises or lowers every frequency by the amount you chose.
Twelve semitones is an octave. Shifts of a few semitones sound natural on most material; bigger shifts on voices start to sound processed (the “chipmunk” or “giant” effect), because the formants that give a voice its character move along with the pitch. Everything happens in your browser, and the level is kept the same as the original.
