Clock Hand Angle Calculator
Pick a time and see the exact angle of an analogue clock's hour and minute hands, plus the angle between them — handy for puzzles, clock-face design or just curiosity.
About this tool
Angles are measured clockwise from the 12 o'clock position. The hour hand moves gradually between hour marks as minutes pass, rather than jumping — the same way a real analogue clock behaves.
That's what makes clock-angle puzzles tricky. At 3:00 the hands are exactly 90° apart, but at 3:15 they aren't together: the minute hand is on the 3, while the hour hand has moved a quarter of the way to the 4, leaving 7.5° between them. The shortcut is angle = |30 × hours − 5.5 × minutes|, subtracting from 360° if the answer is over 180°. The minute hand moves 6° a minute and the hour hand 0.5° a minute, so the hands overlap 11 times every 12 hours, about every 65 minutes 27 seconds.
