Retail Shelf Sales Simulator

A 5×5 planogram — 5 shelves of 5 facings — to explore how positioning alone affects which products a customer is likely to notice first. Price and product quality are deliberately left out: this is about shelf placement, not which product is actually "better".

Reading the heatmap: each slot is shaded from red (lowest score on this planogram) through yellow to green (highest) — purely relative to the other 24 slots here, not an absolute measure.

Which products win attention, and why

About this tool

Every slot's score is Height × Width × Horizontal × Faced-up × Label, using fixed multipliers for each factor. The height factor depends only on which shelf a product is on (eye level scores highest). The width factor rewards a product that occupies several consecutive facings in a row — type the same product name into neighbouring slots on the same shelf to see it grow; it resets between shelves and breaks if a different product interrupts the run. The horizontal factor favours the centre of a shelf over the far left or right. Faced-up and label are up to you to set per slot. A product's total score is the sum of every slot it occupies, anywhere on the planogram.

Does this predict real sales?
No — it's an education tool for how shelf placement alone shapes customer attention, deliberately excluding price, quality, brand and everything else that also drives real purchasing decisions.
Two products have the exact same score — what does that mean?
The tool will say so rather than pick an arbitrary winner: with identical scores, which one actually gets chosen first comes down to chance, not anything in this model.
