Spectrogram Generator
Upload a clip to generate a spectrogram — a complete picture of how its frequency content changes from start to finish, time across the bottom and frequency up the side.
About this tool
The clip is split into up to 900 short time slices, each analysed with a 2,048-point Fourier transform. Colour shows level in decibels, from the loudest point in the clip (pale yellow) down to 90 dB quieter (near black), so quiet detail such as reverb tails, hum and background noise shows up too. Low frequencies are drawn toward the bottom, high frequencies toward the top. This is a full offline analysis of the whole clip, rather than the real-time view the Spectrum Analyzer gives while something plays. The logarithmic scale gives each octave the same height, as we hear it; switch to linear to see the high frequencies in more detail, for example to spot where an MP3 encoder has cut off the top end (often around 16 kHz).
