Salary Negotiation Script Builder
Prepare for a pay conversation: your case, the market evidence, your target and walk-away figures, what to say, and how to respond if they push back, as a script to rehearse.
About this tool
Pay conversations go best when they’re about the value of the role, not your personal finances. Before the meeting, gather evidence: what you’ve delivered (with numbers), what you’ve taken on beyond your job description, and what similar roles pay in your area, from job adverts, recruiters and salary surveys. Decide your target and your walk-away point in advance, so you don’t agree to something on the spot that you’ll regret.
Open with your case, state your figure clearly and then stop talking: silence is fine. If the answer is no, find out what would need to change and agree a date to revisit it, and consider what else you’d value, such as training, flexibility or holiday. For a job offer, thank them first and negotiate before you accept. Afterwards, confirm anything agreed in writing. Your answers are remembered on this device.
