Decision Matrix Calculator

Weigh up options properly instead of going with your gut: list the options and what matters, weight each criterion, score each option, and see the weighted totals, ranking and how close the call is.

Weight each criterion from 1 (nice to have) to 5 (critical), then score each option from 0 (fails) to 5 (excellent).

About this tool

A weighted decision matrix makes a choice explicit: list the options, decide what matters and how much, then score each option against each criterion. Each score is multiplied by its criterion’s weight and added up, and the totals are shown as a percentage of the best possible score, so options can be compared at a glance. It’s useful for choosing a supplier, a candidate, a software package or a place to live.

The numbers support a decision rather than make it. If the top two are within a few points, the result depends heavily on your weights, so the tool says how close it is; try changing a weight or two to see whether the winner changes. If the answer feels wrong, that’s worth noticing too: there may be a criterion you haven’t written down. Your matrix is saved on this device.
