About this tool

Enter coordinates, a town or city, or press 📍 for your own location. The tool finds the time zone from a compact map of the world’s time zone boundaries built into the page, then uses your browser’s up-to-date time zone rules for the local time, the offset from UTC and the next daylight saving change. Nothing is looked up online, so it works without a connection once the page has loaded.

Time zones are named by region in the IANA format, such as Europe/London or America/New_York, which is what calendars, phones and programming languages use. That’s more reliable than abbreviations such as BST or EST, which some countries share and others don’t use. Near a border, especially at sea or in remote areas, the boundary map can be a few kilometres out, so check the zone for places right on a line. The time converter turns a time where you are into the local time there, which is handy for booking calls and meetings.
