About this tool

Clipping happens when a signal is pushed past the loudest level a format can hold, flattening its peaks and adding harsh distortion. This tool lists every run of three or more samples in a row at or above the level you choose, on each channel, with its time and length. A single sample touching the top is usually harmless; runs are the tell-tale sign.

For MP3 and AAC files, choose −0.1 dBFS: encoding rounds the flattened peaks slightly, so clipping that happened before encoding may no longer reach exactly full scale. The highest sample in the file is shown too.
