About this tool

Two things give old game consoles their distinctive crunchy sound: a low bit depth (fewer possible volume steps, so the waveform gets "staircased") and a low effective sample rate (fewer distinct values per second, so the sound gets blocky). This tool reproduces both — lower bit depth and a higher sample-hold value both push the effect further.

Change the settings and press Play again to hear the difference: the effect is applied afresh from your original file each time, and Download saves it with the current settings.
