About this tool
WHOIS (now often looked up through RDAP) is the public record of who owns a domain. A privacy or proxy service replaces your name, address, phone number and email in that record with the service's own details, which cuts down on spam, sales calls and unwanted contact. Since GDPR in 2018 most registrars already hide individuals' personal details for generic endings such as .com, and Nominet hides non-trading individuals' addresses for .uk, so check what your registrar shows before paying extra.
Privacy doesn't make you anonymous: your registrar still holds your real details and must hand them over in response to valid legal requests, and some endings, such as .us, don't allow privacy at all. Choose your ending above for the rules that apply.
