About this tool
Everything happens in your browser using the canvas API — your image is never uploaded anywhere. Enlarging an image beyond its original size will soften it; there's no way around that without the original at a higher resolution.
Big reductions are done in several halving steps with high-quality smoothing, which keeps fine detail such as text and hair crisp rather than jagged. Choose JPEG for photos (a quality of 80–90% is usually indistinguishable from the original and much smaller), PNG for logos, screenshots and anything with transparency, or WebP for the smallest files on the web. Transparent areas become white in a JPEG, because the format can’t store transparency. The file size is shown after you save, next to the original’s.
