My Current Location
Find your current coordinates in every common format, including OS grid reference, with how accurate the fix is and the nearest town, ready to copy or send to someone.
About this tool
Press the button and allow location access when your browser asks. Phones use GPS outdoors, which is usually accurate to 5 to 10 metres; indoors, and on laptops, the position comes from nearby Wi-Fi networks or the mobile network and can be hundreds of metres out, which the accuracy figure shows. “Keep updating” follows you as you move and shows your speed and direction when the device reports them.
If you need to tell someone exactly where you are, such as a breakdown service or a friend meeting you, copy the message: it includes the coordinates and a map link that opens on any phone. In an emergency in the UK, call 999; phones send their location to emergency services automatically. Your position is worked out by your device and stays in your browser: the nearest town comes from a list built into the page, and nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose to open the map.
