Document Metadata Viewer / Editor
See and edit the hidden properties inside Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, such as author, last modified by, company and title, and strip personal details before you share.
About this tool
Modern Office files (.docx, .xlsx and .pptx) are zip archives, and they carry properties you don't see on the page: the author, who saved it last, your organisation's name, keywords, a revision count and how long it has been edited. They travel with every copy you send, so it's worth checking them before a document leaves your organisation. “Remove personal details” clears the author, last modified by and company fields in one go.
Only the fields you change are rewritten, so other properties and the document itself are copied across exactly. You download a new copy and your original file isn't touched. Created and last-saved dates are kept unless you tick the box. This doesn't remove names in tracked changes or comments; use Who Edited This File? to find those, and Word's Inspect Document to remove them.
