Word Document Word/Page Count & Stats
Get the word, character, paragraph and sentence counts of a Word document, plus pages, reading time and speaking time, without opening Word.
About this tool
The counts come from the document's main text, including tables, the same way Word's own word count works by default: footnotes and endnotes are counted separately, and deleted tracked changes and hidden field codes are left out. Characters are given with and without spaces, as many word limits and translation quotes use one or the other.
The page count is the one Word stored when the file was last saved, if it's there; otherwise it's estimated at 500 words a page, which varies a lot with font, spacing and images. Reading time assumes an average adult reading speed of about 238 words a minute and speaking time about 140, a comfortable pace for presentations. The file is read in your browser and never uploaded.
