About this tool

CMYK is a rough approximation for screen preview only — actual printed colour depends on the printer, ink and paper, and always looks slightly different from what's shown here.

This uses the simple formula most web converters use: it doesn’t apply an ICC print profile such as FOGRA39 (common in UK and European printing) or GRACoL. For artwork going to a commercial printer, convert in your design software using the profile your printer supplies, and use these numbers as a starting point.

The total ink figure adds the four percentages together. Most printers cap this somewhere between 280% and 320% (lower for uncoated paper and newsprint), because too much ink won’t dry properly. Rich blacks are usually built as something like 60, 40, 40, 100 to stay under the limit.
