About this tool

Telephone ringback is a pair of tones switched on and off in a fixed rhythm — different countries use slightly different frequencies and timing, which is why a US "ring-ring" sounds noticeably different from a UK one. This tool recreates a few recognisable patterns from scratch.

The UK ringing tone is the familiar double “brr-brr” (400 Hz and 450 Hz, on for 0.4 seconds, off for 0.2, on for 0.4, then two seconds of silence), while the US one rings for two seconds every six. Dial tones, the UK engaged tone and the US busy signal are included too, each made as one exact cycle so it loops without a glitch.
