Connection Time Checker

Check whether a flight connection is long enough, step by step: walking, changing terminal, passport control, security, re-checking bags, and a buffer on separate tickets.

About this tool

Tick what your connection involves and it adds up the time each step usually takes, then compares the total with your layover. A layover counts as comfortable with about half as much time again as the minimum. It’s a transparent rule of thumb rather than an airline’s official minimum connection time, which is the shortest connection it will sell.

On a single booking the airline has accepted the connection and must get you to your destination if you miss it. On separate tickets (a self-transfer) the second airline owes you nothing if the first is late, which is why the checker adds an hour’s buffer and why bags must be collected and checked in again.
