For Europe, the Entry/Exit System (EES) now registers your fingerprints and photo the first time you cross a Schengen border instead of stamping your passport, so allow extra time. ETIAS, the €20 travel authorisation, isn’t needed yet: it’s expected from late 2026 at the earliest, so be wary of sites charging to apply now. Rules change, so check GOV.UK’s foreign travel advice for each country.
