About this tool

Counts update live as you type, using standard word-boundary splitting and a simple sentence-ending heuristic (. ! ?). Reading time assumes roughly 200 words per minute.

Why does my character count include spaces?

The main "Characters" figure counts everything, including spaces and punctuation — the "no spaces" figure strips whitespace only, which is what most platform limits (like SMS or meta descriptions) actually count.

Is this accurate for non-English text?

Word counting works for space-separated languages. Character counts are accurate for any script.
