Spintext List Expander
Turns one templated line into every combination it describes — classic spintax like {love|like}, or a plain slash-separated list like local/regional/national news — into a full list of expanded lines.
About this tool
With a bracket selected, this works like standard spintax: I {love|like} {cats|dogs} expands to all four combinations (love/cats, love/dogs, like/cats, like/dogs) by multiplying out every bracketed group in the line. With bracket set to "None", it switches to a simpler mode built for a specific everyday pattern: a run of words joined by the split character, with no brackets at all — local/regional/national/international news expands to four separate lines, each keeping "news" and swapping in one of the four words before it. Both modes handle more than one group per line, multiplying all of them together, and a line with no groups at all is passed through unchanged. Bracketed groups can also be nested: {cheap|{low|lower}-cost} flights gives cheap, low-cost and lower-cost flights.
- Is there a limit to how many combinations one line can produce?
- Yes — a single line is capped at 1,000 combinations, to stop an accidentally huge template from freezing your browser. A line over the cap is skipped and noted rather than silently truncated.
- What happens if my text contains the split or bracket character naturally, not as a template marker?
- This is a basic expander with no escaping — it will treat it as part of a template. Pick a bracket or split character that doesn't otherwise appear in your text.
