FIFO — first in, first out — means the stock that arrived first (or expires soonest) gets sold or used first, with newer stock placed behind it. Log each item's received date and shelf life in days here, and this tool works out its use-by date and sorts everything soonest-first, so the items needing attention float straight to the top.
The colour coding is a quick visual triage to help you prioritise, not a food-safety guarantee — always follow your own date-labelling policy and use-by rules, and use your judgement (and your nose) alongside it.
