About this tool
WCAG AA requires a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal text (3:1 for large text, 18pt+ or 14pt+ bold); AAA requires 7:1 (4.5:1 for large text). Each candidate text colour is checked against both thresholds.
As well as plain white and black, the tool searches your background’s own hue for the tinted text colours that only just pass AA and AAA, both darker and lighter. These keep a design feeling on-brand (a deep teal on a pale teal, say) while still being readable. Copy any of them with one click.
