UUID/GUID Generator
Generate random version 4 UUIDs or time-ordered version 7 UUIDs, up to 1,000 at a time, and check the version and creation time of any UUID.
About this tool
A UUID (universally unique identifier, called a GUID by Microsoft) is a 128-bit ID that can be created anywhere without checking a central list, with practically no chance of two ever matching. Version 4 is 122 random bits; you’d need to generate a billion a second for about 85 years before a duplicate became likely. Version 7, added in the 2024 standard (RFC 9562), starts with the creation time in milliseconds followed by random bits, so new IDs sort in the order they were made. That makes v7 the better choice for database primary keys, because new rows go at the end of the index instead of being scattered through it.
Both are made with your browser’s cryptographic random generator. A batch of v7 UUIDs made in the same millisecond still comes out in order. The inspector reads any UUID and tells you its version and variant, and for versions 1, 6 and 7 the date and time it was created, which is worth knowing because a v7 ID reveals when a record was made. Your settings are remembered on this device.
