Identicon/Avatar Generator
Turn a username, email address or any text into a unique, symmetrical avatar pattern. The same text always makes the same image.
About this tool
An identicon is a default avatar drawn from a hash of some text, so each user gets a distinctive image without uploading a photo. This one hashes your text with SHA-256, uses the first bytes to choose a colour and the rest to fill in one half of the grid, then mirrors it so the pattern is symmetrical and easy to recognise. Change one character and the whole picture changes.
With “ignore capitals and spaces” turned on, [email protected] and [email protected] give the same picture, which is usually what you want for email addresses. The hash shown under the image is what the pattern is based on. Don’t treat it as a way of hiding an email address, though: anyone who guesses the address can make the same hash. The SVG download is tiny and stays sharp at any size.
