Changelog/Release Notes Entry Generator
Write a tidy changelog entry for a software release in the Keep a Changelog format, with a suggested version number and a link comparing it with the last release.
About this tool
Keep a Changelog is a widely used format for a project’s CHANGELOG.md: the newest release at the top, each with its version and date, and changes grouped under six headings. Added is for new features, Changed for changes to existing ones, Deprecated for features that will be removed, Removed for features that have gone, Fixed for bug fixes and Security for vulnerabilities. Empty headings are left out, and bullets or dashes you paste in are tidied up.
Enter the previous version and the tool suggests the next one under Semantic Versioning: a patch number for fixes only, a minor number for new or changed features, and a major number when something is removed or a line mentions a breaking change. With a GitHub or GitLab repository address, it adds a link comparing the two release tags. Write entries for the people using your software rather than as a list of commits, and keep an Unreleased section at the top to collect changes as you go. Your draft is saved on this device until you clear it.
