About this tool

The chord is analysed at up to 40 moments across the clip (skipping the first tenth of a second, where the strum or attack is noisy), and the energy is folded into the 12 pitch classes, a “chroma” profile. That profile is compared with every major, minor, seventh, major seventh, minor seventh, diminished, augmented and suspended chord to find the best match.

It works best on a single sustained chord of a second or two, played or recorded cleanly. You’ll also see the strongest notes it heard, which helps if you want to work out an unusual voicing yourself.
