Alt Text Checker
Paste some HTML to check every image’s alt text: missing alt, file names, “image of…”, links with no name and alt that repeats the text beside it.
About this tool
Every image needs a text alternative that does the same job as the picture. Informative images need alt text that says what matters about them; decorative ones need an empty alt="" so screen readers skip them; and an image that is the only thing inside a link or button needs alt text that says what the link does, otherwise the link has no name at all. Leaving alt out completely is the worst case, because many screen readers then read the file name aloud.
The checker also flags alt text that starts “image of”, which is redundant, alt that is just the file name or a placeholder word like “photo”, alt that repeats the link text beside it, very long alt, and inline SVGs or role="img" elements with no name. Your HTML is parsed safely without running anything. It can't judge whether a description is actually accurate, so read the alt text back against each image too.
