Area Unit Converter
Convert an area into every common unit at once, from square feet and square metres to acres, hectares and square miles, or work it out from length and width.
About this tool
Enter an area and its unit to see it in every other unit, or open the length-and-width section to work out the area of a room, garden or plot first. Estate agents in the UK usually quote homes in square feet and square metres, land in acres or hectares, and farmland in acres, so all are here. One acre is 4,046.86 m² and one hectare 10,000 m², about 2.47 acres. A square metre is 10.76 square feet.
Roods and perches still turn up on old deeds and allotment agreements: a rood is a quarter of an acre and a perch (a square rod) is 1/160 of an acre, about 25.3 m², the traditional size of an allotment being ten perches. All conversions use exact legal definitions, such as an inch being exactly 2.54 cm, so results are as precise as the number you enter. Your last entry is remembered on this device.
