About this tool

Lottery odds come from counting combinations, a calculation called “n choose k”. Choosing 6 numbers from 59 can be done 45,057,474 ways, so one line has a 1 in 45,057,474 chance of the jackpot. A separate bonus pool multiplies in: EuroMillions' 2 Lucky Stars from 12 add 66 combinations, which is how 2,118,760 main-number combinations become 139,838,160. Pick a game or enter any pools; the figures are exact, using whole-number arithmetic that can't round.

The table shows the odds of matching each number of balls per line, which is how prize tiers work. Some games add extras, such as Lotto's two rounds a night or the UK-only Powerball prize for two numbers, so a game's official “odds of any prize” can be better than this table suggests. Buying more lines raises your chance in proportion, but 10 lines on Lotto is still only 1 in about 4.5 million.

Why does a bigger pool change the odds so much?
The number of combinations grows very quickly: the move from 49 to 59 balls in 2015 took UK Lotto's jackpot odds from 1 in 13,983,816 to 1 in 45,057,474, more than three times longer, though the pool grew by only a fifth.
Does the order of the numbers matter?
No. A line wins on which numbers match, not the order they come out, which is what “n choose k” counts.
