About this tool

Public sector websites and apps, including councils, schools, NHS bodies and universities, must publish an accessibility statement under the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018. It has to say how accessible the site is against WCAG, list what isn’t accessible and why, offer alternatives, give a way to report problems, and explain the enforcement procedure. This generator follows the structure of the GOV.UK model statement, and the Government Digital Service now checks sites against WCAG 2.2 AA.

Businesses and charities don’t have to publish one, but the Equality Act 2010 requires reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and a clear statement with a way to ask for help shows you take that seriously. List each known problem on its own line and it becomes a bullet in the statement. Review the statement at least once a year and whenever the site changes significantly. Your answers are remembered on this device.
