Fonts are loaded live from Google Fonts as you pick a pairing — the CSS output includes the matching @import line so the fonts load wherever you use it.
Only the weights each pairing actually uses are requested (the bold or semi-bold for headings, regular and bold for body text), which keeps downloads small. For the fastest pages, and to avoid sending visitors’ IP addresses to Google, which some UK and EU privacy guidance advises against, you can download the same fonts and host them yourself: the @font-face Snippet Builder writes the CSS for that.
