Midpoint Calculator
Find the halfway point between two places, or the centre of a group, and the nearest towns to meet in, with how far each person has to travel.
About this tool
Enter two or more towns, postcodes or coordinates. For two places, the midpoint is exactly halfway along the shortest route over the Earth’s surface, measured on the WGS84 ellipsoid. That isn’t always the point halfway between the two latitudes and longitudes, especially over long distances. For three or more, the tool finds the geographic centre: the point that balances everyone’s position, like a centre of gravity.
The nearest towns with 5,000 or more people are listed as likely places to meet, with each person’s straight-line distance. The centre is about distance, not journey time, so motorways, railways and water can make another town fairer in practice. Use it as a starting point and check the routes. Place names and postcodes are looked up from lists built into the page, and your places are remembered on this device.
